Controlling Yamaha AV RX-A830 from command line

At home I have been using a Yamaha AV RX-A380, it’s an home teather audio video solution where you can plug about everything you need (like 7 hdmi channel, spoiler alert there is something wrong with you if you have that many devices) and output to two other hdmi channel (like a tv and a projector).

It has integration for spotify, airplay, netradio and billions of connection to everything, just look at the damn back of this device :

Since I wanted to control it from the command line to automate it for home automation, I firebugged the web interface and reversed some of the REST calls in a nice bash script.

Here it is at your convenience to using or hack it :

This doesn’t support multi-zone and assume the web interface is resolvable to http://yamaha.local/ (it should be by default) so be aware. This may support other Yamaha AV devices but since I don’t have it I can’t say and you may have try, if it does kindly add a comment here soother would know 🙂

My running and cycling stats of 2012

And here is another year finishing and I am looking back how did I do with my fitness.

I have not done well with regard to my class A running race, I wasn’t able to make to the Jerusalem marathon due of passport problem of my kid and had to easy my running due of a bad ankle since February, but I still did a 1h32 half marathon by March and a 1h38 in L.A in Septembre, just in time to hit over 1000km by this year :

  Running stats 2012

I have instead did much more cycling finishing a easy sportive in wales of 130km and a pretty hard one in south of france of 160km with a lot of mountains climbed. I made it to 5000Km (for my racing bike not counting my city bike which has around 500km on it) :

Cycling Stats 2012

I would have done much more if I didn’t have a bad upper shine when I was in australia where I was going to do a month of cycling.

This year looks promising with the Madrid Marathon in april (going for around 3h20) and probably some pretty good cycling trips during the summer if shin/ankle get sorted, I am looking forward to 2013.

Toshiba Regza 32AV615DB blank screen HDMI Linux

I have this nice Toshiba TV which is connected to a small Linux box which act as a media player. I have been some issue lately the things works fine under the 1920×1800 resolution most of the time. But once in a while I get a blank screen and the nvidia driver telling me this :

(II) Dec 03 17:00:19 NVIDIA(0): “nvidia-auto-select”
(II) Dec 03 17:00:19 NVIDIA(0): Virtual screen size determined to be 640 x 480
(WW) Dec 03 17:00:19 NVIDIA(0): Unable to get display device CRT-0’s EDID; cannot compute DPI
(WW) Dec 03 17:00:19 NVIDIA(0): from CRT-0’s EDID.
(==) Dec 03 17:00:19 NVIDIA(0): DPI set to (75, 75); computed from built-in default
(==) Dec 03 17:00:19 NVIDIA(0): Enabling 32-bit ARGB GLX visuals.
(–) Depth 24 pixmap format is 32 bpp

Spend a long time trying to debug the thing by the software but it seems that the TV has some kind of trouble and if I switch it to another HDMI connection it does detect fine which I do at about every week… not a biggie but still annoying.

Automatic best resolution with xrandr

If you like me you have a big screen with your laptop and wants to automate when your X session start to get the best resolution, you can use that script :

[code lang=”bash”]

function get_resolutions() {
xrandr|while read -a line;do
RES=”${line[1]}x${line[3]} ”
[[ ${RES} != [0-9]* ]] && continue
echo ${RES}

for res in $(get_resolutions);do
[[ $_res -ge ${_BEST_RES} ]] && {
xrandr -s ${BEST_RES}

Stopped smoking

Cigarette Ashtray
While reading this entry. I just remembered that it has been a a litle bit more than a month that i stopped smoking. I was a real smoker, smoking a 25 red malboro every day. But one day i wake up (one of those
days you know) and like that i thought to maybe stop smoking. So far it has been good, the hardset part is the first days really, after it get OK. I hope it will last for me, i feel so much better i think since i stopped smoking.

Every year i am affected by a Malaria crisis i get exactly what is described on Wikipedia:

Symptoms of malaria include fever, shivering, arthralgia (joint pain), vomiting, anaemia caused by haemolysis, haemoglobinuria, and convulsions. There may be the feeling of tingling in the skin, particularly with malaria caused by P. falciparum. Consequences of infection with malaria include coma and death if untreated—young children and pregnant women are especially vulnerable. Splenomegaly (enlarged spleen), severe headache, cerebral ischemia and hemoglobinuria with renal failure may occur.

I think I got this when I was traveling in 2002 around Mexico in the region of Chiapas which is supposed to be a high risk region for Malaria (cf: here). And I remember that my first crisis was in La Havana in Cuba staying in the bed sick with diarrhea and fever for a week.

I don’t think there is any medicines against that, it’s basically for me every time the same and it’s not that bad as described by Wikipedia article.

Like this Thursday, I was at work pretty normal and by 14h I had a pretty big head each and could not look at my computer screen anymore. I left work and tried to come back by buses but during my bus ride I was feeling worse and worse and had to go at the first stop to take a taxi (it’s a long way from Leichardht to Bondi Beach). I just crash on the bed get crazy fever cold and warm all the day and night long. Until the day after I feel fine and ok.

Anyway stuff are getting ok now and I can move and type on a computer. And since a lot of people are dying from Malaria I am not so much unlucky to have only a couple of days fever each year.
